After Hours & Weekend Calls
We understand that pregnancy and women's health concerns can be stressful, and our physicians are always available for urgent medical issues after hours. However, our after-hours line is intended for emergencies and urgent problems only - not for routine questions or reassurance that can safely wait until regular office hours.
Our physicians personally return these calls, often while caring for patients in labor, performing surgeries, or managing emergencies. We appreciate your help in reserving after-hours calls for situations that truly cannot wait.
Regarding Early Pregnancy Bleeding
Bleeding in early pregnancy is common and cannot be distinguished from miscarriage-related bleeding over the phone.
If you are **NOT soaking a large pad per hour for two consecutive hours**, we recommend calling the office at 8:00 AM on the next business day for advice on what evaluation you will need based on your clinical situation.
If bleeding is heavier than this threshold, or if you feel unstable, emergency room evaluation is the only immediate option.
Please Call After Hours If
- You think you may need to come to the hospital or emergency room
- You are experiencing heavy bleeding, severe pain, decreased fetal movement, or signs of preterm labor
- You are experiencing signs of labor, such as regular contractions every 5 minutes for ONE hour, OR leaking fluid ("water breaking")
- You have a medical emergency that cannot wait until the next business day (such as a motor vehicle accident, a significant fall, or direct abdominal trauma during pregnancy)
Please Wait Until Office Hours For
- Mild cramping or discomfort improved with rest or hydration
- Prescription refills, lab result questions, or paperwork requests
- Routine pregnancy symptoms (nausea, mild swelling, constipation, etc.)
- General advice or reassurance questions
- Early pregnancy bleeding that is NOT heavier than the threshold above
If You Do Not Receive A Return Call
Your physician may be attending to another emergency or actively caring for hospitalized patients. If your concern is truly urgent and you do not receive a call back within a reasonable time, please proceed directly to the hospital for evaluation.
